Rules for Integers

ADDING:

When adding two integers with

the same sign, the final answer
will always be the same sign.
To make it easier, pretend the
sign isn’t even there.

When adding two integers with

opposite signs (+/-), the final
answer will always be the sign
of the LARGER integer.

Ex:
5 + (-3) = 2 3 + (-5) = -2

SUBTRACTING:

When subtracting integers,

always change the
subtraction symbol (-) to
an addition symbol.

Then, change the sign

(+/-) of the second integer
to the opposite sign.

Use the addition rules

above to solve the
question.
