I totally agree with Seth Godin’s viewpoints that fresh and remarkable is necessary in
marketing today to be successful. As he pointed something that is ordinary , similar to
already existing and very good seems boring to people.
I can cite an example where I myself got fascinated with One plus phone. I was unable to
find out a flagship mobile phone in the range 30-40k. In the year around 2013 mobile
phones like I-phone had a population segment (ready to pay around 60k and above) that
uses it as a social status and for an elite feeling whereas on the other hand majority of other
mobile phone companies were focusing on the population segment with their flagship
phones in the price range 15K-20K but there was missing a brand which can give a flagship
phone of theirs in the price range 30-40k and at the same time give an elite feeling (quality,
innovative features and durability ). Then it was realized and captured by One plus, and
people bought the idea as their tag line says “Never Settle” which was new, fresh and
remarkable i.e. worth making a remark about.
2. Production philosophy focuses on mass production, low cost and intensive distribution
strategy.
a) Example Hero Motocorp it has a range of products that attracts people from all age
groups.
b) It has products with price range starting from Passion Pro to a quality product like
ZMR
c) Customer service like after sale value of Hero Motocorp is really good.
Product philosophy focuses on quality, performance, innovation and majorly on high income
group for example Apple , BMW, branded t-shirts, shoes like Adidas ,Polo etc.. Companies
following product concept philosophy keep on improving their products on a continuous basis.
They usually set industry trends and standards and give an elite feeling to consumers.
Selling Philosophy focuses on aggressive selling of products. It assumes customer will not buy
enough of the product if left alone. It is used for unsought goods that buyers do not normally
think of buying, such as health insurance, bike and car insurances, automobile services etc.
Marketing Philosophy focuses on customer satisfaction, wants and developing a right product
at right time at right place at right price and with right communication to the right buyers.
According to this philosophy in order to stay in market one has to fulfil consumer wants better
than their competitors. For example Healthkart is selling health related products only thus
focusing on this section of wants of people. They have store both online and offline, and
provide free consultation regarding health supplements with detailed explanation thus having
superior value propositions for customers to their competitors.
Societal Philosophy focuses on long term interest of society along with satisfying the customer
needs. For example Door to door organic good is a company which just doesn’t sell natural
and organic groceries online for profit but its mission is to bring more good food- food that
positively impacts health, communities and environment – to more people in a sustainable
way.
