THE OXFORD MAN

In 1906 at the Oxford Street was a visionary man who wanted to innovate the business of
shopping, his name was Harry Gordon Selfridge.

He didn’t want to have an ordinary shop, he wanted to have a big department store, where you
can have a unique experience of nigh out even if it was at daytime, within this his idea was to have
the most impressive shop but. HOW HE COULD REACH THIS GOAL

His first idea was to start a spacious designed, gorgeous to the sight on a street where was
unfashionable, being his goal to be the landmark of the street. In 1909 the store was fully built to
opening doors, having load bearing walls internally, it was a performance shop that had over 100
department that had new inventions like the television invented by Jhon Logie Baird and the new
plane that Balire had brought to England. Also, in the shop you were able to buy tickets for the
theater, boat tickets to New York, or you could rest at the reading rooms or have lunch at the
restaurant, also you can communicate with other people that were abroad. As well with the
phones you can call to the local to know what product you can find in the store, additional to all
the new revolution of this local Mr Selfridge have shifting product when the costumer couldn’t go
to the store his product will arrived to his own home making the life of the client easier. Mr
Selfridge was a supporter of the women rights in the suffrage movement beside all the staff that
worked in the store were women being an important member Gladys Evans who was in prison for
16 weeks were all her mates protested beside her.
