30-What Is Minimum Ratio in Simplex Method
Minimum ratio test: Pick out each positive (>0) coefficient in the pivot column. Divide
right side values by positive coefficients. Identify the row having the smallest ratio.
In mathematical optimization theory, duality or the duality principle is the principle that
optimization problems may be viewed from either of two perspectives, the primal
problem or the dual problem. The solution to the dual problem provides a lower bound
to the solution of the primal (minimization) problem.
(4) Simplex method involves use of surplus, slack, and artificial variables but provides
useful economic data as a by- product. The graphical method is preferable when the
problem has two variables and only two or three constraints (and when no computer is
available).
The simplex algorithm is the original and still one of the most widely used methods for
solving linear maximization problems. However, to apply it, the origin (all variables
equal to 0) must be a feasible point. ... The "Big M" refers to a large number associated
with the artificial variables, represented by the letter M.
