A Passing dream

(Book No 87. Sl No 2378. Date: 27/11/99-29/11/99)

By Ravi Panamanna

It is becoming dusk
I hear a distant wisp’.
A battalion enters my door-step
And into the room make a giant leap!

It is a straight drive
I am sucked alive.
It is an all-round attack
And I am out for a duck!

Thousand needles pierce at once

In a moment, I am out of my sense.
I am helpless for a shelter
Lo! I am caught like a traitor!

I am beaten flat
I realize I have exhausted my mat!
It meant a long suffering night,
Moments of frustration and a sad plight!

The attack is finally over

The injury is rather severe.
They hale from the fading twilight
In the process showing all their might

Yet, in the inward eye

For them, I carry a sigh.
Compared to human life
Their span is ten days, so brief.

Within this brief fleet

Their evolution is but complete.
In a moment they are born
In a moment they are as well gone.

Ditches are their whole

Human blood is their soul.
They spring to life at twilight
And fade as a wisp’, a passing dream.
