II. PROBLEM
The problem of this research is the “effects of the using social media sites in the academic

Social media has been ingrained into our society today to such us extent that is virtually
impossible for people to take you seriously, if you are not on social media platform. Everyone is always
frenzy when it comes to socializing online. Even the corporate world has jumped into the bandwagon
and companies are very active online, posting updates and answering queries.
There are many social networks to choose from; some of the popular ones include Facebook,
Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram. As the popularity of social media keeps on spreading all over the
world, there have been mixed feelings about these networks and how they impact the youth.
IV. SOLUTION
Are you one of those individuals being carried off by the wind of technological hype? There’s no
denying that society nowadays are in total craze about online total interactions made possible using
internet. Men and women of different ages particularly teenagers are not newbies regarding this
societal trend. Social networking sites are somehow advantageous as it serves as giver of information
and means of communication. The aforesaid sites include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Wattpad and so
on. Students are one of the top users of these sites. Though handy, do you know that using such us
social networking sites will open a can of worms and will eventually affect your academic performance
in school?
Respondent’s profile
This chapter includes the presentation of profiles which were drawn from 20 respondents who
are all 1ST year college students of The Adelphi College, Lingayen Pangasinan. These findings are
gathered through interviewing the respondents given by the researchers. The results are presented in

COMPUTER OWNERSHIP
It can be seen in the table 2 that out of twenty students, only thirty-five percent (35%) said they
own computer and respondents saying they do not are sixty-five percent (65%).

In approach to the center of this study, social media sites used by the respondents were
obtained through interview. With access to the cellphone and/or computer, engagement in social media
sites provided by the internet websites are easily reached and attained.
We found out that all respondents used two or more social networking site. Facebook, the all-
time popular online social media or social networking site with billions of users tops the findings
wherein 100% of the respondents have accounts with the said site. Next on the list with 65% is an online
mobile photo-sharing website called Instagram. Wattpad, an online storytelling community where users
read and/or post their written works such us fictional stories, received 35% percent. The rest with 25%

The respondents involved in social media sites have earned a passing general weighted average
according to the study conducted by the researchers. The grades gathered came from the Grade 12
general weighted average of the respondents. The obtained grades ranging from eighty-five (85) up to
ninety-seven (97), these grade brackets can also be regarded as satisfactory, very satisfactory and
outstanding.
Table 4 presented the general weight average of the respondents they acquired from their final
grade in their grade 12. Eighty-five percent (85%) of the sample reaped general weight average ranging
from eighty-five to ninety-five (85-85), followed by grades ranging from seventy-six to eighty-five (76-85)
with frequency of 2 or 10%. The lingering 5% consist of grades from ninety-five up to one hundred (95-
100).

B. CONCLUSION
The outcomes generated from the tests conducted revealed that there is, indeed, no significant
relationship between the usage of social networking sites and the academic performance of the
respondents. These social networking sites are informative and useful in study; however, it is up to the
users on how they manage their time and how they are responsible users of these so-called sites.
Our research revealed that 1st year students of The Adelphi College were likely not much
affected by social media networks. It is true that these online sites are capable in developing social
awareness of each students, letting them engage themselves into socializing. Facebook provides a lot of
information, be it academically or not, this will benefit the students by gaining knowledge. Instagram
will also one of those sites where you can develop your skill. This photo-sharing site which you can
unleashed your artistic talent and socializing through the web in the form of photos you, yourself
captured. Wattpad on the other hand is a site which also develops reading and writing skills. This site
helps the students to put her/his thoughts into words other people can read, this develop a sense of
