INSTRUCTION: Give clear, neat and precise answers to the following problems.

1. Consider the Bessel equation of order one x 2 y +xy'+( {x} ^ {2} -1)y=. Then
a) Show that x = 0 is a regular singular point.
b) Show that the roots of the indicial equation are r 1=1 and r 2=−1.
c) Show that one solution for x >0 is

c) For the given system find a condition on R1, R2, C and L that must be satisfied if the
eigenvalues of the coefficient matrix are to be real and different.
d) If the condition found in part c are satisfied, then show that the eigenvalues are
negative . Moreover, show that I (t)→0 and V (t )→ 0 as t → ∞ regardless of the
initial conditions V 0 and I 0 .
4. Find the approximated solution of the initial value problem y ' −2 t+ e−ty , y ( 0 ) =1 at
t=0.1 , t=0.2 using Improved Euler formula for h=0.01∧h=0.025 .
