ASSIGNMENT # 1

SUBMISSION DATE: 16TH OCTOBER, 2021

PROBLEM STATEMENT

ANSWER

If I were the captain of the ship, I would allow the following five people to board the lifeboat:

 Woman who is six weeks pregnant

 Senior citizen who has fifteen grandchildren
 Thirteen-year-old twins
 Veteran surgeon

The reason for these options is that the woman is expecting a baby inside her, senior citizen
and veteran are aged persons and the twins are just children. These conditions lead to the fact
that the moral principles always suggest that the old, women and children should be
considered first while resurrection in life-threatening situations. Being the captain, I would
board the ship to safely take the boarded people to any nearest safe seashore. No doubt
everyone has an equal right to life, but in a case like this where not all people can be saved,
the above-mentioned people should be saved in accordance with morality. As for the other
people, the most I can do as a captain of the ship is act according to the emergency handling
protocols and ask for sending help as quickly as possible. However, if someone knows how
to swim or is ready to give their place to someone else, in that case, the decision made can
vary.
