The opening moments are beautiful; a careless young girl called Lakshmi flies a kite,

ran gladly through the hills over her rural home, and in the distant ripples the
Himalayas and joyous music in the background. Later, her mother brushes her hair
and prepares a firelight for supper in the family hut. We see Lakshmi's eyes sliding in
the light of the huge city fantastic gems. Later, when the rains fall down and the roof
leaks and crops are devastated, the comforts look even remoter. Although we know
what is going on, its family is not entirely clear if Auntie Bimla makes a promise of
working as a maid in the larger city to help the family live.
Without an incident, Lakshmi and Bimla cross the border and reach their destinations.
This establishment is referred to as 'Happiness House,' a brothel operated by a
Mumtaz lady. Lakshmi mixed with the other females in the brothel including
Shahanna and Anita, whom she was a friend of hers, and the temperamental Monica,
unaware of her having been sold into sexual slavery. Later that night Varun, an
important and paying customer that prefers the virgins, will be dressed and prepared.
Lakshmi resists his approaches and bites Varun to leave the building by the resulting
turmoil.
On the street, she rides for rescue blindly, but is captured and beaten in an isolated
room by Mumtaz' workforce. While peering outside, Lakshmi was sighted by Sophia,
an American photographer who came to India to work with Hope House. Sophia takes
photos of Lakshmi, but a brothel worker, Suren, notices her. Sophia is determined to
save the 'girl in the window' after the pictures have been recovered, and asks for help
from Hope House management Mrs. Tripathi and her detectives Vikram and Sam.
Mumtaz is drugging the Lakshmi a manga juice and preparing it again for Varun, who
rapes her, after several failed attempts to assure her participation. She is again
drugged and forced to serve several guys on her next day. But without any planning,
Sophia asks Vikram to raid the Happiness House. Lakshmi no longer has a bed and is
made to work, as do the other women in the community living room. It's Harish, with
his little sister Gina, a young kid living at the brothel, and his ailing prostitute
mother, Pushpa.
Lakshmi contemplates suicide after seeing employees bury their deceased in a
shallow grave, but Shahanna stopped her. The days go by and Lakshmi will soon be
resigned to her destiny. But Shahanna is not encouraged to calculate how many days
she will need to repay Mumtaz's debt. She tells her that if her bills are found there will
be consequences. Anita tries to get away from it, and Mumtaz is punished, shooting
the chili peppers in the vagina over against the others. After an angry customer
assaults Shahanna, Lakshmi defends Shahanna, and Bimla informs her that those who
die in the building in the garden are buried. Monica, who after 5 years has paid back
her obligation to Mumtaz, leaves the brothel and returns to her village where, since
she provided financially for her family, she is expected to be welcomed as a heroine.
Arriving in Happiness House, Vikram and Sam present themselves as customers. Sam
sends Lakshmi a card with Hope House details and tells her that an attack will take
place in the near future. Anita is listening to the interchange. Lakshmi confides in
Shahanna, who is dismissive and claims that American men are sent to kidnap girls
and harvest their organs. Monica comes back to the Happiness House, bruised and
battered after her father was beaten and expelled from her community. A week later,
the women are taken to see a doctor, who examines them and determines that Monica
has Kaposi's sarcoma, a sign of HIV/AIDS. She has to quit the brothel.
Harish notices Lakshmi in the yard while supplying customers with soft drinks and
bottles. They hide from Suren, who is in search of Harish and the missing drink box.
Anita is a witness and leads to a power failure, stopping the pair from being caught
and punished. Mumtaz compares the power cut to the women, and finds the Hope
House card. Anita states she's hers, and she's struck by Mumtaz, but she can give
Lakshmi the card and inform her that she's lied to purchase some time for the next
raid. The raid is started but the cops and Sam don't find anything since Bimla is hiding
the younger girls. For urging Vikram to perform an early search, Sophia apologises.
Anita is being sold to the Middle East by Mumtaz, where she is going to be a sex
slave and can never come back. Pushpa gets unwell and has to leave with Harish and
Gina because they can't work anymore. Lakshmi plans to escape and slips off a
window, while the others watch a religious event on television. One of the brothel
workers chases her, but she manages to escape from the crowds of adorers. After he's
lost initially, Lakshmi finally goes to Hope House and rejoins Harish. The police are
raiding Happiness House with their information and finding hidden girls and buried
bodies. With the help of them. But Mumtaz gets away, Bimla and Suren are arrested
and others. The rescued girls burn their clothes in Hope House later that night.
