COVID-a9

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the lifestyle of many people around the country
and the world. In the name of saving lives, the social distancing needed to slow the
spread of the virus has scattered us into our homes around the region and the country.
Although we are now physically distant from one another, we remain united. Nearly
every 100 years, humans collectively face a pandemic crisis. After the Spanish flu, now
the world is in the grip of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). First detected in 2019
in the Chinese city of Wuhan, COVID-19 causes severe acute respiratory distress
syndrome. Despite the initial evidence indicating a zoonotic origin, the contagion is now
known to primarily spread from person to person through respiratory droplets. The
Omicron variant likely will spread more easily than the original SARS-CoV-2 virus and
how easily Omicron spreads compared to Delta remains unknown. Health organization
expects that anyone with Omicron infection can spread the virus to others, even if they
are vaccinated or don’t have symptoms. Vaccines remain the best public health
measure to protect people from COVID-19, slow transmission, and reduce the likelihood
of new variants emerging. Be vaccinated to fight and stop the spread.
