Using A Different Bass For Different Parts, I’m sure the big question is “why?”. First of all we
want the song we’re working to be exciting, unique and special. One of the was is to make ABOUT ME
transitions and sections of the song stand out. Being a producer, mixer, and musician I know that
you need to commit to a sound and adjust as you go. By committing to a sound it allows me to
make better decisions rather than have a ton of options and try to sort it out later.

Using a different bass in the chorus as you did in the verse can help it be fuller, punchier, and just
add excitement.

So now the question is, “I only have one bass guitar, if that”. Here’s some ways to remedy that.

1. Borrow/Rent From A Friend or Fellow Bassist.

Bass players can be some of the wildest guys in the bunch, but also the friendliest. Explain what
you’re doing and they may throw you a bone. In fact I needed to borrow a bass for some videos I
was shooting, and since I was away from home and didn’t have any I asked on Facebook and my
buddy Chris hooked me up.

2. Use Sampled Bass Guitars.

We live in an awesome time as DIY producers, and have access to all kinds of studio tools. One of
those are Bass plugins that take real bass guitars and hyper-sample that give you a good sound.
Two that I’m using these days are AmpleSound’s Music Man Stingray Bass, Fender’s Jazz & P

4. Using A Synth Bass

Using synths to also enhance your bass sound will also keep things interesting. You can always L AT E S T P O S T S
