The following are data for the adsorption of CO on wood charcoal at

0 ℃ . The following pressure P is in mm Hg while x is the volume of gas in
cc, measured at standard conditions, adsorbed by 2.964 gof charcoal:
P x P x
73 7.5 540 38.1
180 16.5 882 52.3
309 25.1

17. Find graphically the constants a and b in the Langmuir equation which
fit the data given in problem 16.

18. From the results of the preceding problem, calculate the volume of CO
at standard conditions adsorbed by 1 g of wood charcoal at 0 ℃ when partial
pressure of CO is 400 mm.

19. In a laboratory experiment 50 cc of a solution originally 0.2 molar in

C H 3 COOH was permitted to come to equilibrium with a 5- g sample of
charcoal. At equilibrium, 25 cc of the C H 3 COOH solution required 30.0 cc of
0.1 N NaOH for neutralization. Calculate the weight of C H 3 COOH adsorbed
per gram of charcoal and the equilibrium concentration of the acid.
