Pirates

Are pirates considered terrorists? Many believe that they are. The definition of a terrorist is “ the

use of unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against citizens, the pursuit of political

aims.” (notes from class). Pirates just want to get rich. They don't have a political aim. It's more

for power and to take values from others.

Somali pirates are one type of pirates. They began by hijacking large ships. They also

were taking people for ransom payments. Somali was very corrupted and had no political

motivation. People start joining the pirates because of the unemployment rate in somalia. They

do because they want to take care of the family and feed them. This also ties in with today's

society. There is so much unemployment in the world because people can't get certain jobs with

their felonies. They start going to the streets to make fast money to feed their family. It could be

selling drugs, scams, frauds, ect.
