Recreational Skills
Enhance recreational/leisure skills; Play is vital to the physical, social, spiritual and emotional well
being not only for children, but adults as well. There are varieties of indoor/outdoor activities that
can help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These activities are based on the
individual's skills, interests, and physical abilities. It is essential that members have a wide
repertoire of interests and opportunities. For example, art encourages individuals to develop their
creativity that can be used to entertain themselves and release stress. Other examples include scrap
booking, making jewelry, listening to music, exercising, nature walking, reading, playing games and
sports, or just connecting in casual conversation.
