Teaching is one of the most difficult things to do because it is all about dealing with human

minds of all ages. Human minds receive information in different ways according to different
backgrounds and experiences. Acknowledging this is the first step for understanding the
importance of studying the different kinds of intelligence through which a human being
obtains, solves, recognizes, applies, and interprets information. To be successful in
teaching, we, as teachers, must improve our abilities to address all students’ thinking as
different as they may be.

The first difficulty I encountered was the lack of students’ awareness of what Intelligence is
and the Multiple Intelligence theory itself. For some of my students, being intelligent was
related to getting good grades at school or answering all the questions the teacher asked
during a class. I introduced the topic to my learners by telling them some examples. For
instance, a student who has highly-developed musical intelligence can be asked to learn
about an important event and what happened during that event by making up a song about
it. Fortunately, they did not hesitate on keeping an open mind and understood the topic right
away.

The second obstacle I have experienced is related to planning and including all the
intelligences. Not all the intelligences included in the theory can be targeted without the
teacher’s effort when preparing a learning activity. Addressing a specific type of intelligence
doesn’t mean that we should ignore other types of intelligences because the aim is to reach
students’ minds as well as develop all their skills. The teacher’s role is extremely important in
making sure students get the most out of multiple intelligences theory in the classroom.
Teachers should work with the students, rather than for the students, to develop the best
activities, projects, and layouts. Teachers should continuously observe students’ interests
and successes in different areas and continually change the classroom layout and plan
accordingly.

The last adversity I have dealt with was executing so many different bits of intelligence within
the classroom, giving students enough time to assimilate, enjoy and develop their skills
without pressure. As a teacher, it is important to use multiple intelligences in the classroom,
but first, we must understand the Multiple Intelligence Theory and know which intelligences
your students have, to be able to teach them in the best way possible.
