CALL FOR SEXUAL AND GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE MONITORS

In line with our mission of promoting women's individual and collective power to claim
their rights in all spheres of life, and with the
support of our development partners, we
plan to observe and monitor violence against women in the forthcoming general
elections. We are in the process of recruiting sexual and gender-based violence against
women in elections monitors across the 47 counties in Kenya.

The gender dimension of political violence in Kenya constitutes a major risk factor for
the perpetration of SGBV committed during election processes. Violence against
women in elections, VAWE, is considered a form of violence that hinders the realization
of women's political rights in electoral contexts. It comprises several types of violence,
including harassment, intimidation, psychological abuse, sexual violence, and physical
attacks, directed to women with different roles in the electoral process, such as voters,
candidates, party supporters, observers, electoral administrators, or public officials,
among others.
