This document provides guidance on developing metacognitive skills to improve learning. It includes 10 tips for metacognition when studying such as turning off distractions, using a syllabus as a guide, recalling prior knowledge, asking questions, taking breaks, and testing oneself. The second part instructs students to create a personalized metacognitive game plan. An example is given that outlines 7 steps such as ensuring one is well-rested, taking thorough notes, organizing materials before an exam, using mnemonics, summarizing chapters, studying difficult topics first, and taking breaks during study sessions.

1. Make a collection of metacognition strategies that can
make learning more efficient and effective
1. Turn off your cellphones or other technology devices.Because when we
turn off things that will make us distracted we can focus on our studies or in our lessons. 2. Look at our syllabus as a road-map/guide.In the syllabus of our subjects our professors probably included a course schedule, learning objectives, or something that gives us a hint about the subjects. By reading the syllabus we can know about what we need to learn and also we can know what is the flow of our class or our subjects. 3. Summon our prior knowledge about the lessons/subjects. Because before we read our textbook or attend a class we need to look at the topic that is covered. And ask ourselves what we know on this topic and what are we need to learn and what parts of the topics are we need to focus on. 4. Ask ourselves some questions. Because asking ourselves some questions is a key to metacognition. Try some brainstorming on a certain topic. 5. We need to use writing.Because writing helps us to organize our ideas and thoughts about something that we need to do or to learn. 6. Organizing our thoughts by using a graphic organizer or concepts maps is a way to visualize materials and by using this we can know or see the connections between the various concept of our learnings. 7. Take a break. As a student, we need to rest our minds and body before we proceed to the next topics or lessons. For example, I can’t start another lesson if my mind and body are feeling tired and I take a nap to rest and when I wake up my mind and body can start better to learn new things and lessons. 8. Test ourselves. Before we proceed to the next lesson we need to give some tests to ourselves to know if we understand better the last lesson or topic we tackle then if we can get a better score we can proceed to the next lesson. 9. Review our exams. Reviewing our exams is a way to know what we need to learn and know about a certain topic and also by reviewing the exams that we took it is a great time to use our meta-cognition. 10. Lastly we need to figure out how or what we learn. Because by doing this we can know what is much better to use in learning strategies to make the lesson or certain topics understand easily. 2. . Based on the principles of metacognition, prepare your own metacognitive game plan on how you can apply metacognition to improve your study.
MY METACOGNITIVE GAME PLAN
In order to improve my studying skills.
Step 1: I can sure that I have a sound mind and body when I dealing or learning a certain kind of lesson. And also I sure that I stay hydrated and nourished in order to have body equipped before start in learning. Step 2: I always remember that always taking down notes is very necessary for retaining all certain points that my teacher tackled.I always make sure to highlight all the important details, annotate any additional information and listen bery carefully. Step 3: When I prepare for an exam,I need to make sure that I gather and organize all of my notes, handouts ,test papers and pointers a few days prior.Because this is in order for me to easily find what subjects and lessons to study without the difficulty of rummaging through my stash of things. It will make my review much more smoother and without delay. Step 4: When I dealing with lists of names/figures to enumerate ,I use mnemonics in order to remember it easily .I can also use other techniques that would suits on my remembering and recalling capabilities. Step 5: If need, I can summarize the entire unit/chapter in a separate paper.I always make sure to organize it properly and all the major points should be written and emphasized .All formulas should be given also with meanings and examples. Step 6: When dealing with more subjects or lesson to ponder or to study with ,I should study firsts the subject that I can find hard or difficult to understand. When in doubt with something I never hesitate to ask to my teacher or classmates. Step 7: After a long time of studying my lessons ,I should never forget to take rest for a while .In order to recharge my energy and to stimulate my mind even more. And after that I can start again with fully charge body and mind to study.
