Introduction

In this paper we will talk about what is the World of work, we will also talk about
what is work, its main differences and changes.

This world is constantly changing and evolving without us realising it and we will
have to adapt to it and manage to reconcile it.

The aim of this work is to show the main changes over the years, the main
differences between work and employment and also to show how the world of work
began.

3
1. What is Work?

Work is a set of activities carried out, it is the effort made by individuals in order to
achieve a goal.

Work constitutes one of the basic needs of the human

being.

Work is the founder of social being, it is the activity that

enables men to develop productive forces and social
reproduction, performing activities in society that go
beyond the production environment.

It can be approached in different ways and with a focus

on various areas, such as economics, physics, philosophy, history, etc.

It is work that makes the individual demonstrate actions, initiatives, develop skills. It
is with him that he will also be able to perfect them.

Its basic definition indicates that it is the measure of effort made by human beings.

At work indicates that an individual performs a certain

productive activity for which he will get a wage, that is, the
price of work within the labour market.

For work, there are several types of contracts that man has to
follow both the employer and the contractor.

The employment relationship between the employer and the

employee is subject to various laws and conventions,
although there is also what is known as "black economy"
work, which is illegal hiring that allows the employer to exploit
his interests for his employee.

There are many possible forms of work, such as productive self-employment in the
liberal professions and commerce/trade, informal work for survival and servitude,
among others.

4
With the advent of the internet, today we have a new form of work which is online.

In this, there are two types of concepts for work:

Online- remote work which is when an employee of a

company starts working from his home, so he provides his
services exclusively for the company where he works
through the internet;

Online Work- where the person starts to work on their own, performing services
for people or companies without any kind of link.

Work also plays an important role in socializing people, as it is

often carried out together and with a common goal.

The performance of tasks leads to the development of

techniques, and these techniques are transmitted culturally.

This is what happens in working with the land, for example, each culture builds its
own way of planting and dealing with the land.

2. How the world of work began

The world of work has existed for many years, since millennia, but it was only
during the industrial revolution, from the 17th century onwards, in Europe, that
work appeared, which accompanies the history of humanity.

The first agricultural activities appeared even in prehistory. In

Ancient Egypt, collective servitude predominated in the labour
world, which meant that the bosses abused their power and
mistreated and took advantage of the weakest and poorest for
their own power.

5
Ancient Greece, was the basis was slavery. In the High Middle Ages, characterised
by feudalism, there was a strict regime of servitude, between feudal lords and their
slaves.

It is through work that technical and psychological skills, the relationship between
people and the search for economic and social goals are developed.

Whether in the countryside or in the city, in commerce, in industries, in public

service or in Third Sector entities.

We are currently experiencing a moment of uncertainty with

the economic crisis affecting an important part of the
economically active population of the country, unemployment
continues to grow, despite small signs that the retraction is
slowing down. It is also said that young people between the
ages of 16 and 24, are the most affected by the crisis.

The current generation has had some difficulties to insert itself in the labour
market, it suffers from underemployment.

Children are thrown into the labour market to help their parents with household
bills, often in unhealthy situations and staying away from school.

3. What are the main changes at work in

life

Although automation is seen as a fundamental element

for companies whose functions are quite repetitive tasks
and a large volume of data to analyses even so the work of the human being is
quite crucial, because in it in certain circumstances it is their intelligence that
cannot be discarded, as it is necessary to interpret and deal with the information
collected.

However, the trends for the coming years are not only about new careers.

6
Another factor that cannot be ignored is the growing population of the elderly. For
globalization, in the world of work the ageing population and even climate change
are causing some professions that did not exist to start appearing, while others will
disappear.

The profile of the worker and the way of working are

also changing.

Educational institutions are still important for building

a professional career. Education cannot be originated
from a single source, as it is constantly changing.

It is necessary to keep ourselves updated and

interested in the search for constant qualification. It
is necessary to develop some of these socio-
emotional skills which are:

 Emotional intelligence
 Critical thinking
 Analytical thinking
 Virtual collaboration
 Negotiation

4. The world of work today with covid-19

At this moment with the pandemic the world of work is greatly affected worldwide.

The world of work is being deeply affected by the global virus pandemic.

In addition to the threat to public health, the pandemic carries economic and social
impacts that affect the livelihoods and well-being of millions of people in the long
term.

At this stage, the way you are used to work is not the same because since the end
of 2019, there have been measures in place to enable you to go to work or in any
other situation.

7
From the beginning with the corona unemployment came to increase little by little,
or also the rapid teleworking regime where workers had to come home to work by
computer or even in companies being on lay-off.

The pandemic has forced businesses and consumers to quickly adopt new
behaviours that are very likely to remain.

Employment has gone from stable to precarious.

We are currently experiencing an economic crisis that has come to affect our
population.

Institutions are constantly confronted with challenges that they have never
experienced before.

There are more and more companies going bankrupt and therefore the number of
unemployed is increasing, but this does not mean that there are no job offers or
outlets for those who are unemployed.

Even if people are vaccinated, it doesn't mean that at work they don't take personal
care of all the requirements that the institution or the company sends.

5. The Future of Jobs

It is a time marked by rapid advances in automation and

artificial intelligence.

The technology-driven world we live in is full of promise,

but also challenges.

Today there is already enough technology provided to us for anything such as

autonomous cars, machines that interpret X-rays and algorithms that clarify
customer queries.

8
However, even if these technologies increase productivity and improve the
lives of human beings their use will take the place of some work activities that
are currently performed by man and also to the
advancement of technology the millions of jobs will
cease to exist with artificial intelligence and machines

Jobs that used to exist now will no longer exist and

this is a fact that is causing a lot of concern.

During the pandemic, the virus affected physical

proximity the most: medical care, personal care, leisure and travel and face-to-
face customer service.

6. What to expect from work in the future

It is quite difficult to know what will happen in the future when covid-19 ends if
it does, we all hope it ends so that it will fully or partially turn to the life that
people hope will happen.

Machines will take the place of human labour, which is not a big news.

However, jobs will not cease to exist: the activities will be adapted and, in this
way, we will share the space with technology.

Practically all professions have occupations which can

be automated. In this reality, it is necessary to verify
that robots as assistants of human beings in decision-
making processes.

For that, it will be necessary to develop new skills.

Corporate education has been gaining more and more strength within
companies, which are very interested in keeping their teams aligned with the
new trends of the future.

9
7. Conclusion

Based on the analyses made throughout this work, it can be seen that the
world of work is constantly evolving and this also brings its disadvantages, as
several jobs are disappearing, thus creating more unemployed people.

With the advancement of technology and artificial intelligence, companies may

in the future not be interested in the chance to hire employees and thus arise
more unemployed.

10
Some jobs that used to exist in the past are also disappearing, and with all
that, the jobs that exist now may also disappear in the future.

More and more new work alternatives are being seen, such as online work.
