Background For the survey, the respondents for the survey are
selected through stratified random sampling method. The
data will be collected from first-year to fourth-year
Broadcasting students of the Polytechnic University of the
Philippines enrolled in the academic year 2021-2022.
In the survey, there is a section students could fill out in
case they want to participate in an interview for this study.
Students' emails will be collected for easier communication.
The interview is used for further understanding of the
quantitative data.

Purpose of the Study This study is all about the concepts and practices of
piracy, music, film, literature, and software, of Broadcasting
students’ from Polytechnic University of the Philippines. It seeks
to understand the moral dilemma (if there is any) they come
across while committing the act, knowing they will be future
content creators that will be harmed or affected by the same
act itself.
All of the data collected will be solely used for this
study and nothing more. There will be no conflict of interest
with the study, the participants, and/or the researchers.

Procedures of the Study The six (6) researchers created the survey together.
They conducted a pretest of the survey to 10 students.
Through their feedback, they improved the quality of the
survey in terms of its length, format, and language.
Google Forms is used for the survey that will be sent
through the respondents’ emails. The answers will be kept in a
secured Google Drive created solely for the research. On the
other hand, Google Meet, Zoom, and other teleconferencing
platforms accessible to the interviewees are used to conduct
the interview.

Benefits This study is beneficial for the students. It can be a way


or a reason for institutions or universities to offer students
access to copyrighted materials so that they don't have to
pirate anymore.

Risks As piracy is a sensitive topic that involves laws and


ethics, it is of utmost importance that the information
disclosed by the respondents are secured. All the data
collated for this study will be stored in a secured Google Drive
that only the researchers have access to. Anonymity shall be
kept all throughout the study.

Cost of Participation The students or survey/interview participants will not


incur any significant costs as a result of this study aside from
the time, internet, and electricity that will be consumed while
the survey/interview proper is being held. However, if the
interviewee requires load for data, the researchers could also
provide for them.

Payment or Remuneration As a token of appreciation for the interviewees, each


of them will receive a PHP100 Jollibee voucher. However, it
will not be mentioned before and during the interview. The
codes will be given to them after the interview through
Facebook Messenger or email.

Confidentiality The personal information collected for this research will


be used to monitor and classify the responses to the survey
and in-depth interviews. For the data gathered from the
survey, only the total number of responses per year level will
be mentioned in the research paper. On the other hand, the
researchers will use a format, Interviewee + assigned number,
in the discussion of the result from the in-depth interviews.
Any information that may identify the interviewees will
be omitted in the final paper. The information gathered from
the survey and in-depth interview will only be seen by the six
(6) researchers and their thesis adviser.
During the presentation of the research, the
researchers will not mention any names or information that
will identify the participants of this study. The information

written in the final paper will only be the information that the
researcher will mention during the presentation of the paper.

Voluntary Participation The participants in this research are voluntary. Though


the respondents are selected by stratified random sampling,
the respondents have the choice to not answer the survey if
they do not want to.
The participants in this study have the freedom to
withdraw from their participation anytime. In case a
respondent of this research wishes to pull out from the study,
the document containing their response will be deleted
immediately. Those who wish to withdraw their participation in
this study may contact the researchers two (2) weeks after
they participate in the survey or interview.

Consent Statement:

I have read and I understand the provided information and have had the
opportunity to ask questions. I understand that my participation is voluntary and that
I am free to withdraw at any time, without giving a reason and without cost. I
understand that I will be given a copy of this consent form. I voluntarily agree to
take part in this study.
