If you want to use thicker cardboard, you may have to assemble without the flaps (see below). Corrugated card is not suitable. © Double-sided tape or fast drying glue that will stick paper and card. © Scissors or a craft knife. © Sticky tape. You may want to reinforce the seams from the inside or built the mask without flaps. ©. Time to be crafty, approximately 3 hours. ©. Any other material you may wish to use to decorate and paint your mask with. Let your creativity go wild! How to print the patterns ‘Tips | strongly suggest using double sided tape. A &mm wide one will cover exactly the width of the Slaps. Print the patterns in full size on Ad (210mm x 297mm) or US Letter (8%" X 11") paper. Check your printer settings to make sure you have selected ‘Actual size’ and not ‘Fit’, and that you print one sided. The line in the first page, should measure 100mm, if you have printed the patterns correctly. Assemble the mask Trim the extra paper roughly around each piece of the pattern, so you can arrange them on the card making most effective use of it. Glue the pieces to the card. Remember that the patterns will be on the inside of the mask after you fold and glued the pieces together. Do not glue the patterns for pieces 8 and 9 (ears) on the cardboard, as they will be visible on the inside. Trace them instead or hold them in place temporarily with some tape. Cut out the pieces along the solid outlines. Do not cut the dashed lines. The dashed lines represent valley folds (in red) and the dashed with dots lines (in blue) represent mountain folds. Mountain fold Valley fold Score all the valley folds using either a blunt knife or scissors. Then flip the pieces over and score all the mountain folds from the reverse side. Fold all the scored lines well to create sharp folds. Find the matching numbers and start connecting the pieces by sticking each flap to the edge with the same number. The flaps always go on the inside of the mask. Note that the sequence of numbers does not correspond to the order of, gluing. ‘The mask doesn’t normally require a string, but ifit feels loose and you want to secure it, make 2 small holes on either side. Put a piece of string, ©2016 Kostas Ntanos Tips if you are using thicker cardboard, you may want to cut off the connecting flaps and assemble the pieces using sticky tape from the inside. Tip: Run the side of a pen over the {folds to make them crisp. The sharper the folds, the better. Tip: Connect first all the matching ‘numbers within each piece, before you start connecting the pieces. Start with piece #1 and connect the rest of the pieces around it. Decorate ‘Make your mask unique by decorating it. The possibilities are endless. You can use different coloured and metallic cards for the whole mask or for different pieces. You can paint the mask using spray paint or acrylics or you can glue any other decorations on it, from glitter to feathers and fabric.
