Sewage treatment refers to the rendering of dirty water from house hold and industries, it is

harmolged before it enters the water body.

The sewage treatment consists of the physical separation of the solid waste and the further
treatment of the chemical and biological waste into harmless water.

There are three stages in sewage treatment –

Primary treatment - primary treatment is carried out to remove larger pieces of solid materials like
plastics, dead animals, leaves, rags, cans and bottles. It is done with the help of screening machine.

Sand and greet are removed from the water carefully controlling the velocity of the flowing sewage
water through greet and sand removal tank thereby allowing the sand and greet to settle down.

Fickle solids are removed in the large sedimentation tank and the oils and greases floating on top are
skimmer. This leaves an almost distinct mixtures of two layers, a liquid layer on the top and a heavier
layer on sludge.

Secondary treatment – in secondary treatment in this treatment we are removing the biological
waste like food, organic materials, soap and detergents. This is done by aerobic processes dissolved
oxygen is used to turn the biological matters into floc and change nitrogenous waste into nitrates.
The floc is skimmed of from clarified water.

Tertiary treatment – it is done to improve the quality of the clarified water by aeration so that it can
discharged into water bodies safely. If this infectents like chlorine or ozone is passed and this is
called umm idk natural processed clean this water further in the river

Waste management –

 Organic waste we should use for bio gas and manure.

 We should not drain out the oils and fats in drainage as they can block it because it is sticky
in nature.
 We should not throw waste in water bodies.
 people should not defecate in open space.
