Lab 03 – Questions for Dropbox Submission:

Please provide detailed answers to the following questions in your own words. Do NOT
copy/paste from the internet, the lab itself, or from each other!

1. You downloaded the file linux-4.19.227.tar.xz to your VM – where did it save to? Write the FULL
PATH to the file. (NOTE: this does NOT mean the web address where you got it from!)

2. In this lab, you entered the command sudo sysctl net.ipv4.icmp_echo_ignore_all=1

a) What does this command actually do to your linux machine? (what effect does it have)?

b) Why would you ever want to use this command? Explain your answer.

3. What is the difference between the commands rm –r and rm –R ? Explain (fully) what each one
does.

4. Attach a screenshot that clearly shows:

a) Your name at the top of the Ubuntu Server VM window
b) The user prompt with your name@server
c) The final (updated) Linux version number (replace the example shown below)
