how to handle overlaid fields, such as radio buttons.

MORE INFORMATION

Preparation
Before you start to set the tab sequence, you have to do the following preparation:

• For any field that is not editable or that should not be a part of the tab sequence, change the field's TabStop
object property to False.

Note Typically, only actual data-entry fields, toolbar buttons, and additional navigation buttons are included
in the tab sequence. The following items are not included in the tab sequence:
• Lookup buttons
• Browse buttons
• Sort By lists
• Window buttons
• Record Note buttons
• Print buttons
• Help buttons

• Determine the required tab sequence. The first field in the tab sequence should be the first field in the
window. Typically, this is the primary key field or the ID field. Then, all the fields should follow. Move down
each column until there is a logical break, and then move to the right side to the next column of fields. Then,
move back to the left side and continue.
• For overlaid fields, such as a radio group and radio buttons, move the radio buttons so that at least part of or
all the field is outside the boundary of the radio group. After you set the tab sequence, you can return the
fields to the correct location.

Note For radio buttons to work correctly, the tab sequence must first move to the radio group. Then, the tab
sequence must move to the radio buttons in the sequence that you want them to be valued, starting from 0.
It is very important not to change the tab sequence of the individual radio buttons in a radio group when
data is stored because a change to the tab sequence changes the meaning of the stored data.
• If there is an editable scrolling window or an adds allowed scrolling window, you can select the scrolling
window's position in the tab sequence as if it is a field. However, you must remember to open the scrolling
window and to set the tab sequence for the fields inside the scrolling window.

How to set the tab sequence

From the Dexterity window layout screen or from the Modifier window layout screen, follow these steps to set the tab
sequence for the fields in a window:

1. On the menu, click Layout, and then click Set Tab Sequence.
2. The first field in the tab sequence is highlighted. If this field is not the correct field, double-click the correct
field.

3. Press the TAB key to move to the next field in the tab sequence.
4. If this field is not the correct field, double-click the correct field.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the tab sequence returns to the first field.
6. To move forward or backward through the tab sequence to check it, press the TAB key, or press
SHIFT+TAB.
7. When the tab sequence is complete, click Layout on the menu, and then click Set Tab Sequence.

To test the tab sequence, follow these steps:

1. On the menu, click Layout, and then click Preview. Or, press CTRL+5.
2. Close the preview window when you are finished.

The preview window does not run any scripts. But, the preview window is a good way to double-check the tab
sequence.

Be aware that if you do not press the TAB key when you set the tab sequence and if you double-click the fields
instead, you create a tab sequence that is the exact reverse of the tab sequence that you want.
