DAIRY

The average milk production of the country was 18.92 million liters and growing at an average
growth rate of 5.58% per annum from 2011 to 2015. However, in terms of milk sufficiency, only
1% of the total production requirement was being addressed, such that 99% remained imported.
Milk and cream products remained the second largest import (85.92%) of the country after
wheat. ; and The Philippine local milk production in 2015was at 20.386 million liters, higher by
3.34% than the 2014 production of 19.727 million liters. Of this total, 12.9 million liters or 63.4%
were cow’s milk; 7.121 million liters or 34.9% were carabao’s milk and 0.335 million liters or

Market Trends

For the past years, the Philippines was heavily dependent on imports to meet its national
demand for milk and dairy products. Based on data from NDA, total supply of milk in 2015 was
at 1,813.67 thousand MT (in liquid milk equivalent) of which more than 99% were imported; The
annual per capita milk consumption in the Philippines was at 22 kg. With a strong economy and
a growing population of roughly 100 million, the Philippines kept a large and rapidly expanding

Farmgate price of raw milk from cattle increased from PhP22.50 per liter in 2013 to PhP24.00
per liter in 2015; raw milk from carabao increased from PhP46.00 per liter in 2013 to PhP47.00
per liter in 2015. On the other hand, goat showed no sign of price movement from 2013 to 2014
