1. Challenge: In the fall season, Sukkot, or Booths celebration reminds the Jewish
people of the desert wanderings following the Israelites escape from Egypt. Many
today observe this week-long remembrance in celebration of God’s presence in their
history. Our history supplies our identity. What history do you identify in God’s care
for you? (Share a meaningful Scripture?)

Day Three

5. The NAS translates vs. 2 as God “has spoken to us in his Son.” “IN” is the only
correct translation for this preposition. Can you see any possible difference in using
“IN” rather than “BY”?

Day Four
1. Challenge: Look up radiance (NASB)/brightness (KJV) in a lexical aid or
dictionary. (Enter 541 in the LexiConc box at blueletterbible.org)

2. Last lesson’s Day Four question 3 talked about exact representation

Fill in the following chart showing JESUS on the left and ANGELS on the right. List what
you learn regarding Jesus from Heb. 1:4-14 (list verse). Opposite each point, record
how that point contrasts with what you learn about Angels (list verse).

Day Three
Why does the author begin his letter of exhortation with a contrast between Jesus and
angels? Why the need to prove Jesus is better than angels? Remembering that the
recipients of the Epistle were Jews brings understanding. When Hebrews was written
(prior to the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD—because Temple was still standing Heb. 10:11;
13:10-11) the Jews held angels in high regard for two reasons:
1. Their position in OT (mediators between God and man—Heb. 2:1-2)

2. Their veneration and exaltation in Talmud and other rabbinical writings


and teachings went far beyond what Scripture taught.

When one stepped over the line in transgression of the Law, when one disobeded,
there was to be just judgment. God had spoken, the Law was clear, so were the

3:13, 10:25, 13:19 and 13:22)

2. Read Hebrews 2:5 and look up subject (G5293).

3. Now look up world (G3625).

4. Read Hebrews 2:6 and look up mindful (G3403).

1. Hebrews 2:6-8 is a quotation from Psalm 8 of the Septuagint (which is the Koine
Greek translation of the Hebrew Old Testament.) Challenge: Read vs. 9-10. What
is the greatest proof of God’s love and regard for mankind? Any verses come to
mind?

2. When God created man in His image, what was God’s intention for man in
relationship to creation? See Genesis 1:26-28.

3. Read Genesis 3:1-8. Due to the Fall, mankind has been incapable of fulfilling that
divinely ordained position. What did Adam and Eve do?

4. Who enticed Eve to do it?

1. When we studied angels, we read Revelation 12:9. Who is the Serpent?


2. How did the devil get in this state? Was he always evil? Read Ezekiel 28:12-19 and

1. The greatest passage on the Incarnation and Exaltation of Jesus is found in
Philippians 2:5-11. How does Philippians 2:6 parallel with Hebrews 1:3?

2. Challenge: Find four more parallels between Philippians 2:5-11 and Hebrews 2.

Day Four
Jesus’ substitutionary death (Hebrews 2:9) was in order to make propitiation
(satisfaction) for the sins of the people (Hebrews 2:17) HOW did He taste death and
WHY did He do this for mankind?

1. The people held Moses in very high esteem. Read Acts 7:1-53 and list the major
points of Moses’ life. Also note how the people responded to Moses and the
prophets.

2. How did the Jews in Stephen’s day respond to the Holy Spirit? (vs. 51)

3. Challenge: What is the flow of thought from Hebrews 2 to Hebrews 3? What


connection do you see between the two chapters? Are there any implications of
these truths in your life?
