There are several related studies that were conducted by the previous
researcher related in the same topics to analyze slang language but the studies
used different object. The first one is the study by Vera and Djasminar, they
analyze the slang language in Nicki Minaj’s Song and found the type of slang
that most often used is Society slang and the meaning of its lyric is related to
sexuality. 1 The second is the study about slang language that found by Ratna
in Rush Hour 2 movie, she classified the slang language that used in the
movie into society slang, workmen’s slang, and public house slang. From the
slang types that the researcher found, society slang is the slang languages that
most often used in the movie because the movie takes a lot of background
places closely connected with society. 2 The last previous study that related
with analysis of slang language was conducted by Sri Wahyuni in 8 Mile
movie. Her study uses the slang word formation theory from Elisa Matiello
and she found 35 slang words formation from five slang words formation
based on Matiello, there are compound, suffixation, conversion, reduplicate
and initialism.3
Based on those related studies, there are similar elements to this study
both of the studies was also analyzed the types and meanings of slang
language in movie script and the first study used song lyric as object of
analysis. The differences this study with three studies above is the object of
study where the writer used the lyric of song that was sung by Ariana Grande
entitled Boyfriend.

 The significance of this research is to increase the study about linguistic
especially about slang language and to understand about its type that used in
Ariana Grande’s song. By knowing the theory and the meaning of the slang, it
will help the readers to increase knowledge particularly in understanding
slang language and help the listeners of Ariana Grande’s song understand the
lyric itself.
