It has been said repeatedly that technology has disabled mankind in some way.

Maintaining physical
fitness and being social in the real world has taken a hit due to emerging technologies. But then, wait for
a moment and think how much it has enabled us rather than disabling the human race as a whole. The
innumerous advantages brought in by technology is incomparable to a few deficits that it has brought
along.

For an example, database has been a real power that has helped authorities catch up with an identity
theft that this woman Diondre Jones tried to move on with. She used her sister’s identity who was dead
long ago and tried to get medical treatment for free. Now, what if doctors there had no access to some
centralized database? An impersonator would have made her way through, thereby committing a crime
using resources she is not meant to.

I am still wondering how the hell one impersonates her dead sister just to revive some medical benefits!
And, that’s not all! She even dared to wear the memorial T-shirt of her sister which even had her picture
embossed. I mean, look at the audacity that this girl had, or should I call it stupidity! Anyways, the main
point is a well maintained database that helped out officials in such a situation. And this does not end
with that. Today, Information Technology has equipped us with all sorts of help that enhances our
power to do the right thing and get rid of all wrong doings that goes on around us. We should use it
judiciously. When you look at the bigger picture, databases are in fact at the center of the IT world. It is
what provides the ‘information’ in our so termed Information Technology world. Starting from Financial
sector to Health, jobs, welfare and what not? Databases lay at the core of every damn thing.

Response to the above:

Yeah, I completely agree to what you said, but then only technology cannot help you get out of such
situations. Authorities might have gotten lucky this time. Have you considered what would have
happened if Diondre Jones sister was not dead but living in some other city? I mean, the hospital staff
would never have received the error message informing them about treating a dead person. So, if that
would have been the scenario, practically 2 persons would be enjoying free medical benefits using one’s
identity. I hope you see the loophole.

Technology has definitely helped us enhance the quality and authenticity in our lives but it still needs to
improve. Tricks that well trained professionals have up their sleeves are enough to bring down large
systems. Databases are at the core of everything but then how long does a hacker need to do his job
and set the data as per his need? I hope you understand what I am talking about.
