EVIDENCIA GAP 5 - ELECTRICITY BASICS - VOCABULARY - READING

Get Ready!

Before reading the passage, for example, about these questions.

1. What is a unit of measure in electricity?

• The units of electricity defined by the International System for magnitudes
related
to Ohm's law are: the volt for voltage; the ampere for intensity; and ohm for
resistance.

2. Why is copper wire used in electrical draining?

• Copper has one of the highest rates of electrical conductivity among

metals,
allowing for easy soldering.

Reading

2. Read the course description. then, mark the following statements as true (T) or false (F).

1 Electrons are a unit of measurement. (F)

2 Students learn about electrical currents. (V)

3 The final project is a written exam. (F)

GLOSARIO.

1. AMPERES.

TRASLATION: Amperios.
Definition: Is the unit of intensity of electric current.
EXAPLE SENTENCE: The unit of electrical intensity in the International System is
the ampere (A).
2. WATTS.

TRASLATION: Vatios.
Definition: Is the coherent derived unit of the International System of Units for
potency.
EXAMPLE SENTENCE: Watt is the measure used to represent electrical power and
establishes how fast electrical energy can transform.

3. ELECTRONS.

TRASLATION: Electrones.
DEFINITION: Electronics is a particle with a negative electrical charge.
EXAMPLE SENTENCE: Electric heating is generated through a system of resistors,
through which the electrons flow, thus generating a share of caloric energy.
.

4. OHMS

TRASLATION: ohmios.

DEFINITION: is the derived unit of electrical resistance in the International

System of Units.

EXAMPLE SENTENCE: Ohm is the unit derived from what is known as

electrical resistance in the International System of Units.

5. CIRCUIT.

TRASLATION: Circuito.

DEFINITION: A circuit is an interconnection of electrical components that carry

electrical current through a closed path.

EXAMPLE SENTENCE: An Electric Circuit is a set of elements connected to

each other through which an electric current can circulate.

6. ELECTRICITY

TRASLATION: Electricidad

DEFINITION: It is a set of physical phenomena related to the presence and flow

of electrical
charges.

EXAMPLE SENTENCE: Electricity is used to generate: light, through bulbs in

lamps and other light objects.
7. RESISTANCE

TRASLATION: Resistencia.

DEFINITION: It is the opposition to the flow of electric current through a conductor.

EXAMPLE SENTENCE: A resistor serves to limit the current flowing through a

branch of an electrical circuit.

8. MEASUREMENT UNITS.

TRASLATION: Unidades de medida.

DEFINITION: They are the methods, devices and calculations used to measure
electrical quantities. Measurement of electrical quantities can be done by
measuring electrical parameters of a system.

EXAMPLE SENTENCE: Some important measurements are Watt, Volt, Amp,

Kilowatt, Volt-amperes, reactive, Culombi.
9. VOLT.

TRASLATION: Voltaje.

DEFINITION: is the derived unit of the International System for electric

potential, electromotive force and electric voltage.

EXAMPLE SENTENCE: Voltage is the physical quantity that, in an electrical

circuit, drives electrons along a conductor.

10. CURRENT.

TRASLATION: Corriente.

DEFINITION: It is the flow of electric charge that passes through a material. It

can also be defined as a flow of charged particles, such as electrons or ions,
moving through an electrical conductor or space.

EXAMPLE SENTENCE: Electric current is a movement of electrons.
