PT quantum mechanics
PT symmetric Hamiltonians can replace the traditional Hermitian Hamiltonian by possessing
space-time reflection symmetry (PT symmetry). This allows to construct and study many new
kinds of Hamiltonians that would previously have been ignored. Replacing the condition of
Hermiticity by PT symmetry does not give up any of the key physical properties that a quantum
theory must have, rather, these new Hamiltonians exhibit two parametric regions and phase
transition occurs between them. One region is called unbroken, in which the eigenvalues are all
real. Another region is called broken, in which some the eigenvalues are real and rest of them
are complex. PT symmetric Hamiltonian can be written as H = p 2 + x2(ix)ε. The Hamiltonian are
like Dirac-Hermitian if ε is equal to zero. For an open system where the system is connected to
the environment, PT symmetric Hamiltonians are useful because it can consider the interaction
between the environment and the system by considering an equilibrium between surrounding
and the system.
