Sustainable Development

Sustainable Development is a development that meets the needs of the

present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own
needs" (United Nations Report of the World Commission on Environment and
Development: Our Common Future, 1987). It is a development that involves the
possibilities in sustaining life and addressing the impact of development of the
place or area. In summary, sustainable development is a development that solves or
attempts to solve the problems faced by the country and its people by doing or
implementing the sustainable development goals.
Global Sustainable Development is a development that solves the problems
faced by humanity. It is a development that ensures that people should have a
healthy living by sustaining their needs like water, hunger, foods, etc. It is a
development made for sustaining the life of people.

Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals, are goals
made by the United Nations in 2015 to address the problems faced by the people
and also to ensure the opportunities of people to live a better life without
compromising our planet. The Sustainable Development Goals are under the 2030
Agenda and were approved by the United Nation in order to ensure the safety and
health of the people. These goals require the involvement of all individuals around
the world.
The Sustainable Development Goals are goals that are made for the better
of the world. These common goals are: Eradicate poverty and hunger, guaranteeing
a healthy life, Universalize access to basic services such as water, sanitation and
sustainable energy, Support the generation of development opportunities through
inclusive education and decent work, and Foster innovation and resilient
infrastructure, creating communities and cities able to produce and consume
sustainably.
The first goal, Eradicate poverty and hunger, guaranteeing a healthy life, is
a goal ensuring the health of the people by solving the poverty and hunger of
people. The first goal is hard to achieve since there are still countries who
experience poverty and hunger even if they are financially stable like the country
Japan. According to the website Zenbird: Discovering a Sustainable Future from
Japan, Japan is no stranger to the word poverty because Japan has the second-
highest rate of poverty among the G7 in 2007. G7 stands for Group of 7 and is an
intergovernmental organization of the 7 largest industrialized economies in the
world. These countries are: Japan, United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France,
Italy, and Germany. The second goal, Universalize access to basic services such as
water, sanitation and sustainable energy, is possible to achieve but the natural
resources could be depleted since there are billions of people and these resources
can’t sustain them well enough for a lifetime. The third goal, Support the
generation of development opportunities through inclusive education and decent
work, has already been achieved by most of the countries because education and
work are already provided to them. But not all can get them due to poverty. And
the last goal, Foster innovation and resilient infrastructure, creating communities
and cities able to produce and consume sustainably, has already been applicable
with the help of the government and its people.

Global Sustainable Development Organization

In 2015, the United Nations announced its Sustainable Development Agenda,
reflecting a growing recognition among the Member States that a development
model that is sustainable for following generations is the greatest road ahead for
decreasing poverty and enhancing people's lives worldwide. At the same time,
climate change began to have a significant influence on humanity's conscience.
With the melting of the polar ice caps, rising global sea levels, and increased
intensity of disastrous weather events, no country on the planet is spared from the
consequence of climate change.
Sustainable development and climate action are connected and are both
important to the present and future well-being of humanity.
The development of a more sustainable global economy will aid in the
reduction of greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. As a
result, the worldwide community must meet the UN's Sustainable Development
Goals - as well as the Paris Climate Agreement's 2015 carbon reduction objectives.
Under this agenda, agencies under the United Nations are responsible for
implementing the plans. Among the agencies under the United Nations, United
Nations Development Program (UNDP) is the leading agency that helps in
implementing the plans through its works in some 170 countries.

Possible Effects of Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals will help create a more sustainable, fair,
and wealthy world. For us to get there, investors must adjust their strategies to
provide not only financial returns but also excellent social and environmental
benefits.
According to an article written by Martin Bennetzen, energy-efficient
projects have a worldwide average internal rate return of 23%. Investors are
gradually disassociating from fossil fuels, and investments in oil and gas-related
businesses are falling, while environmental investments are rising. Investing in
sustainable solutions, energy efficiency and low-carbon projects not only saves and
preserves natural resources and the climate but also protects and preserves the
environment. It also leads an organization to a better financial result.
According to a study titled “Effects of COVID-19 on the Sustainable
Development Goals,” before the outbreak of the pandemic, around 40% of
employed people in Germany had the option of using home offices as a self-
selected work flexibility option, while the remaining 60% had no such choice. This
relation was flipped in the second quarter of 2020 when the lockdown restrictions
turned workers' flexibility options into a home-office requirement. Workers were
expected to integrate their professional, social, and personal lives into a digital
(working) environment more than ever before. They didn't have enough time to
deal with problems because of the drastic nature of the change to home-office
employment. While some workers found themselves and their home-office
environments to be adequate for completing their tasks, many others faced a
variety of challenges, including a lack of separate home-office working space,
technical difficulties, work overload, and additional burdens such as child care,
home-schooling, or caring for dependents.
Opinions, Suggestions, and Recommendations about Sustainable Development
Goals
We believe that the Global Sustainable Development Goals can help our
environment as there are a lot of investors/businessmen who, as mentioned above,
are gradually distancing themselves in any oil and gas-related businesses and since
Global Sustainable Development is a call to every country from the United Nations
which signifies how big of a problem we are actually facing right now, we also
believe that every people living in this world will be willing to offer even if it’s just
a small amount of help.
We believe that these Sustainable Development Goals could really solve the
problems that we are experiencing right now even if it is just little by little. But it
is also highly recommended that all will be united so that we achieve these goals.
We recommended that these goals should be practiced or used right now so that
we could start to save ourselves and also our environment.
