# 1.

Comparison and contrast essay

Theme: Compare yourself to an animal (how are you similar?)
A note: It can be an animal in general or it can be a specific animal, a pet that you may
have in your home. (Obviously you are different so the focus of your essay is on similarities. It is
more interesting.) You may write about differences a bit, either in your introduction or in the
body but don’t forget your purpose in writing the essay.
# 2. Persuasive essay
Theme:  Agree or disagree: Parents should pay children for doing household chores.
A note: TS Example: "I firmly (strongly, vehemently) disagree with the idea (premise,
notion) that students shouldn't be allowed to use restrooms during class time."   Because you're
disagreeing with a negative, it becomes a bit "wordy". Don't repeat this in your topic sentences.
Your topic sentences should be simpler:
The first reason why students should be able to use the restrooms during class time is...
Another reason for allowing students to use restrooms is
A final and extremely important reason is that
#3. Expressing your opinions essay (persuasive)
Theme: Agree or disagree: Teachers at the college level should be able to require students
to type all their assignments.
A note: The purpose of the persuasive essay is not only to inform, but to persuade the
reader that your opinion on some issue is correct and that he or she should agree with you.  Your
ideas must be conveyed strongly and convincingly so that you can actually change someone’s
mind on an issue if they disagree or are undecided.
Note: keep your ideas simple please. Thanks.
