Grammar Punch!!: Infinitives…
An infinitive verb is a verb combined with the word “to”.
These infinitive verbs are used to express the purpose of something or someone´s
opinion about something.
Most often, an infinitive acts as a noun in the sentence.
To form sentences with the verb in infinitive you should follow the next structure:
Subject/
personal pronoun
Remember to add “s”
Base or ”es ”. to the verb
Infinitiv complemen when you talk in
form t
e verb simple present tense,
verb third person of
singular (he, she or it)

I forgot to call my mom this morning.

My sister prefers to go to school earlier that her classmates.
Infinitives…
• The to-infinitive to indicate the purpose or intention of an action
• In this case “to” has the same meaning as “in order to” or so “as to”.
• Examples:

• The Teacher came to collect her pay cheque.

• The zookeeper went to find firewood.
Infinitives…
• The to-infinitive as the subject of the sentence
• This is a formal usage and is far more common in written English than
spoken
Examples:
• To know her is to love her.
• To visit the Eiffel tower is my short-term dream.
• To understand you , that is my aim.
Grammar Punch!!.Gerunds…
• A gerund is a noun made from a verb in its base form by adding “-ing”. For
example, the verb “fly” is changed to “flying”.
• This form of the verb can be used as the subject or as the complement of
the object of a sentence.
• Example:
Watching movies is my favorite hobby.
I enjoy discusing the movie plot with my Friends.
He doesn´t like when the people are screaming.
Grammar Punch!!. Infinitive vs Gerund.
• It can be tricky to remember which verbs are followed by the infinitive (the to form)
of the verb and which are followed by the gerund (the ing form) of the verb.

• Try to remember that:

• Gerunds are often used when actions are real, fixed, or completed.
• "I enjoy cooking."

• Infinitives are often used when actions are unreal, abstract, or future:
• "He wants to swim."
Grammar punch!!. like/enjoy
After the verbs like/enjoy we must write the verbs ending in -ing .
We use like + -ing to express enjoyment.
Example:

She likes eating popcorn while she is watching a movie.

They enjoy meeting the actor and actress of the new movie.
My family enjoys traveling to Disneyland.
