As a lifelong learner of Public Administration, what is your most important reflection about the Philippine Public Administration
in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic?
COVID-19 has revealed and is continuing to reveal the truth about the Philippine Public Administration, that it is not an ideal one. We were taught that in Public
Administration, the government’s concern is to protect the welfare of the people. But during this pandemic, knowing that the virus came from China, president Duterte was
still accommodating Chinese tourists and did not take immediate precautionary measures, which resulted to where we are now and that is the widespread of COVID-19
nationwide. Also, through this pandemic, the ideologies and topics that we discussed, from a four-walled setting, were already happening and we witnessed it right in front
of our eyes. It made us realized that the reading materials that we read was actually turning into a reality. It is disappointing to say that our administration lacked on the
administrative thrusts of the civil service such as accountability and transparency. In this pandemic, it showed the true intentions of our beloved officials and leaders of the
country, on whether they really wanted to serve the people or themselves. As what Ms. Kay said, this is exactly the best time to learn about Philippine politics and
Governance with Public Administration because everything is happening right before our eyes. I wish, we had more time to learn and understand fully about the two major
courses because I think, it would give us more insight and realizations, a more in-depth understanding of what is going on and what might be the steps or processes in
uplifting this country from the injustices and inequalities that we currently have.
