Schools have been forced to censor the spaces offered to their students for free expression,
such as student newspaper in which students exponentially improve their writing and reading
skills; however, this text will attempt to establish the role of the school when its members are
under a media threatening provoked by the mismanagement of its newspaper staff.
1 Main idea
Topic Sentence Schools should be allowed to censor student newspaper for the good of
the entire educational community.
Example 1 For instance, student newspaper might violate a state rule about that it
said prevented publications at public schools from featuring obscenity,
defamation and incitement.
Example 2 Since 1988, when the Supreme Court ruled that a Missouri school
district had acted lawfully in removing a two-page spread on divorce
and teenage pregnancy from a student newspaper.
Reason It is the school's duty to protect the integrity and reputation of students
and the school itself when those are threatened.
Summary Therefore, the school must make decisions always taking as a reference
the care and protection of the educational population.

space to expose the private lives of others in which their reputation has
been tainted and their integrity and privacy has been violated.

school’s duty to protect the physical, emotional and moral integrity of
students.
Example 2 In Colombia, Law 1098 of 2006 called the Childhood and Adolescence
Law in its article 7 establishes the integral protection of children and
adolescents.
Summary They are recognized as subjects of rights, including the guarantee and
fulfillment of the same, the prevention of their threat or violation and
the security of their immediate restoration.

Summary To sum up, the administration cannot put the human rights and values
of students at risk under any circumstances.

Example 1 Undoubtedly the presence of students is there taking part both in the
development and creation and in the reception of the newspaper and
fulfilling the role of readers of the same.
Example 2 Moreover, students should respect the rights of people involved in the
news and articles, observe the common standards of decency and stand
accountable to the public for the fairness and accuracy of their reports
and information.
