CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF STUDY

According to Wikipedia” A market, or marketplace, is a location where


people regularly gather for the purchase and sale of provisions, livestock, and
other goods. In different parts of the world, a market place may be described as
a souk (from the Arabic), bazaar (from the Persian), a fixed mercado (Spanish),
or itinerant tianguis (Mexico), or palengke (Philippines)”. In the market
economy, goods are ungraded and unbranded, so that consumers have
relatively few opportunities to evaluate quality prior to consumption.
Consequently, supervision of weights, measures, food quality and prices was a
key consideration..There are many different ways to classify markets. One way
is to consider the nature of the buyer and the market's place within the
distribution system. This leads to two broad classes of market, namely retail
market or wholesale markets.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE

The propose project main objective aim to create livelihood activities to


increase the income and productivity of the people on barangay Unaban,
contributory to overall socioeconomic development of the locale.

The following is a list of goals in the creation of Mini-Market in Unaban:

• Promote and develop agriculture in Unaban and the neighbour barangays by


construction and operation of a locally grown agricultural products distribution
center,
• Increase sales of locally grown agricultural food products within the area,
• Job creation, local community gardeners can participate.
• Developed the entrepreneurial enterprises.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Environmental impact must also consider in the study, constructing mini-
market can reduce the emission of greenhouse that can be release by the farm
truck just to deliver the product.
The cost of travelling across town to get fresh food is very expensive for
low-income communities.

In socioeconomic impact significance it is to preserves the local cultures of


the locale. Promote the local specialty(yaun btaw products na kinakusgan nan
barangay sa unaban usually an plantation nan watermelon gemahe na lang gud).

TARGET AND BENIFICIARIES


The said project is anticipated to help the barangay and the community.
The identified target and beneficiaries are:
1. The members of the Farmers Organization
2. The market vendor
3. The locale itself

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION


Survey is conducted to prevent complications in building the infrastructure,
like if anyone else, anywhere, was doing something similar and if the people there
agreed to the said project.
The project is accessible to the neighbouring barangays. Communicating
farmers there and address important issues in the development of the business
model and subsequent recruitment of farmer suppliers in the adjacent barangays.
Once identified, an effort would be made to contact a select few in order
gain understanding about how those businesses operated.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE


CONCLUSION:

Usually, market places were situated on the perimeter of the city. Proposing Mini-
Market in local places is not typical in accordance to economic description.
