Case Study: Royal Hotel 1

Troubleshooting Information Systems at the Royal Hotel

1. Despite having relatively little specific information about why the system failed,

what do you think are the main reason for such failure?

I believe the major reason for such failure as observed in the Royal Hotel case study is

the fact that Royal Hotel is a small hotel and the software is just too perplexed for the

employees to comprehend. I think a little old-fashioned software might have worked well

for Royal Hotel. Along with this, the second reason behind the failure is that the Espresso

is not a vital solution for problems like Clogged Toilet. In such incidents, I believe that

the visitors would rather call the operators rather than utilize the information systems.

Additionally, there was a lack of customer satisfaction in relation to the quality of

information system.

2. How could you fix these problems?

I will solve the problems by making things rights by two ways. The first and foremost

problem that I would solve in the case of Royal Hotel’s information system is providing

effective training to the employees so that they can develop a good command over the

new system. Secondly, I will also make Blake realize that he should interview visitors

and know the reason why they stopped using the system. This will turn out effective as it

will provide useful feedback that could be used to improvise the system.

3. Reflecting on the experience, what do you think were the main mistakes, if any, that

Blake made in handling the engagement?

I believe that Blake made some mistakes which were somewhat understandable as he was

still an intern. Nevertheless, there was a difference between the final project and the

design as Blake discontinued from the task before completing it. Along with this, I

believe the mistake that the management of Royal Hotel made was to not train Blake

enough for such a task. He was not fully comfortable with Information Systems which is

yet another contributing factor to its failure.
