What struck you the most?

There are three things that stuck me in the formula for holiness (SPORTS)—that would be Silence,
Rich, Sacrifice. I would like to emphasize only one—Rich. According to Archbishop Villegas, in order to
get rich, one must learn how to give. I aspire to be rich and wealthy. For such ambition, I try to hoard
money and avoid making unnecessary expenses. But this pandemic has made me realized that trying to
be spendthrift doesn’t always equal wealth. With so many people losing jobs and their livelihood, it is
hard to look away and do nothing. I have learned to give and give more. Such action had given me
peace, joy and financial stability. My mother is the most generous person I know and she showed me
that in giving, there is no loss rather there is always gain. This I can testify. I remained healthy and God
has protected me from Covid-19. My parents who are the most vulnerable to the virus due to their
professions had never been infected. Moreover, my family had never lacked anything. To God be the
glory!

What is holiness? Being holy is being like Jesus. One of the characteristics I admire from Jesus is his
boldness and courage. Jesus is not afraid of the repercussions of his actions and words.
Jesus fights for justice, for goodness and for life but not everybody liked it. They had tried to oppress
him but he never stopped sharing the words and will of God even to his detriment. He never stopped
trying to heal the sick and comfort the poor. I want to be like him. When I entered law school, I was very
excited. I already imagined the repute I would gain for being a lawyer. But when I encountered real
lawyers and heard their stories, I realized that the responsibility of a lawyer is not trivial. Sometimes,
even though you fight for justice and for truth, not everyone will be pleased. Sometimes, lawyers have
to contend with those in power: politicians, corporate elites, criminal gangs, drug lords, and people who
has to protect their interest. Lawyers has to risk their lives for the administration of justice and
sometimes this reality scares me. What do I have to give up to be a good lawyer? But Jesus has
reminded me to always fight for what is right. HE epitomizes the character that a lawyer has to embody
to be successful. Thus, I give my gratitude, thanksgiving and honor to Jesus who, through his sacrifice
thousands of years ago, has shined my path and gave me courage.
