Pelco DVR Integration

The Pelco Video Service provides a seamless integration between Security Expert and a Pelco DVR
system, enabling you to control cameras and view live and historical video footage from a single easy-to-
use interface.

Pelco cameras can be linked to doors, inputs, areas, and outputs, allowing you to retrieve footage based
on any change of status, such as when a PIR is triggered or a door is opened. An optional automatic
popup can be enabled, displaying a live video stream on any door event, allowing you to see when
someone is at the door or when a door has been forced open.

The optional high level interface (HLI) enables the use of the PTZ triggers and alarm interfaces back to
the DVR, providing full bi-directional exchange of information.

The following instructions outline how to install the Pelco Video Integration service and configure the
DVR, cameras, and doors within Security Expert.

Feature Support
This integration enables you to:
 View live video footage from programmed cameras.
 View historic and archived video footage.
 Embed cameras into a status page.
 Link a camera to a door, an input, an area, or any record using the filter and camera assignment.
 View live or archived video footage directly from an event associated with a camera.
 Launch a camera view window when a specific event occurs.
 View Diagnostic Information, Motion Detected, Online Status, Physical Event Status,
Property/System Changed, Stream Status Change or Failure, and Video Analytics HLI events
within Security Expert.
 Send PTZ preset commands to the Pelco system in response to a Security Expert GX event filter.

Prerequisites
This integration requires:
 An operational Security Expert system (with software version 3.2.79 or higher)
 The Pelco Video Service
 An operational Pelco DVR system
 The relevant number of Security Expert camera licenses and an HLI license (if required)

The Video Service has its own prerequisites (supplied with the setup package):
 DirectX Runtime
 Pelco SDK Redistributable
 Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable package (vcredist_x64.exe for the 64 bit OS,
vcredist_x86.exe for the 32 bit OS)

Licensing Requirements
The base Security Expert license includes 10 cameras. If additional cameras are required, further camera
licenses can be purchased in blocks of 10. The number of DVRs is not restricted.

The camera license covers the video to Security Expert component. HLI is licensed separately and
enables bi-directional communication between Security Expert and the DVR system. Note that this is
separate to the live and archived video display which is covered with a camera license.

Time Settings
DVR integrations rely on the time being accurately configured for both the hardware and the operating
systems being used on site.

To ensure that the system is keeping precise time, all devices should be set to synchronize with the same
NTP time server. NTP servers work by sending accurate time information periodically to the system.
Many corporate organizations have these running on their network and you can simply enter the IP
address of the NTP Server, although any public NTP server can be used. Finding an NTP server relevant
to your region is usually as simple as a quick web search.

Programming Steps
Adding the DVR
1. Add a DVR record and configure the following required options:
 Enter the IP Address.
 Enter the DVR Port.
 Set the DVR Type to Custom.
Note: The Pelco Digital Sentry/Integral and Pelco Endura options are only used for legacy integrations.
'Custom' must always be selected when using the Security Expert Video Service.

 Set the DVR Port to 60001 by default. Normally, Pelco SDK communicates with the DVR through
the 60001 port, not 18772.
 Set the Service Port to the number you defined when installing the service.
Note: This option is visible only after the DVR Type is set to Custom.
The Service Port must be defined for the integration to work correctly.

 Enable the Monitor Events from this DVR/NVR option to start logging HLI events from the DVR.
Note: The operator can then right click the event and select the camera to view the footage archived at
the time the event was logged. Note that for camera motion events, the Monitor Events option
must also be selected in the camera settings.

2. If authentication is required, enable Login Required and enter the Username and Password to
access the DVR.

Adding the Camera(s)

Once the DVR has been configured, you can add a record for each of the installed cameras enabling you
to view live and archived video feeds directly from a status page, floor plan, or event window.

1. Add a new camera.

2. Set the Type to DVR and select the DVR you created earlier.
3. Select the [...] button to open the Select Camera window.
4. Highlight the camera you want to use and click Select.
5. Configure the following required Display options:
 Show Sidebar Controls in Status Page: When enabled, the playback controls are displayed
when the camera feed is used in a status page.
 Stretch Image: When enabled, the aspect ratio adjusts with the screen to show the full image.
 Floor Plan: Defines the floor plan associated with the camera is associated with.

6. Enable the Monitor Events option to log events from the DVR.
Note: This setting is used in conjunction with the Monitor Events from this DVR option of the DVR record
and enables certain camera events to be logged from the DVR/NVR. The operator can right-click the
event and select the camera to view the footage archived from the time the event was logged.

Viewing Camera Events within Security Expert

Cameras can be linked to doors, inputs, outputs, or areas. Right-clicking these items from a status list
or programming window opens a menu with manual control options. For example, right-clicking a
door provides options to lock/unlock or display a live camera view.

If an event has a camera associated, a small yellow camera icon appears to the left of an event.

Right-clicking the event enables you to view the archived footage for the camera at the time the event
was logged.

The Camera Window

The camera window displays a split view showing archived and live camera footage.

 The top left window displays a 5 second looping video centered on the time of the event.
 The top right window displays a 30 second controllable window centered 15 seconds on the time
of the event. Drag the slider to adjust the frame that is shown to any point within the 30 second
period.
 The main lower window displays the live camera view.
 The options on the right provide control over the current view:
o The Live View Controls provide PTZ camera control buttons allowing you to control a
PTZ enabled camera.
o The Archive View Controls allow you to select any date and time in the past.
