Around the year B.C., line dancing began. Line dancing has been in some form or another since
the beginning of recorded history (Julian Gothard)

straight lines facing the same direction), as well as programmed foot motions executed to a
defined number of counts every sequence. In addition, the sequence is repeated, sometimes in
a different direction. Today, line dancing transcends socioeconomic, racial, age, and sexual
orientation barriers. Line dancing is viewed as a good social outlet by both singles and families.
Line dancing became popular in the early 1990s when the country western "Achy Breaky Heart"
became the most popular song of 1993 (Christy).
