I am writing this letter to petition for the extra fees charged to my account.

Shortly after starting school


last fall, I decided to join the Army National Guard. As a soldier, I am required to go for basic training.
For my basic training, I was given a ship day of March 14 th. This means that I would be leaving in the
middle of the school year, which prevents me from starting the spring semester. As a rule, we students
must sign a contract agreement with room and board. The above happenings have resulted in my failure
to attend the second semester; thus, $500 will be charged for breaking my contract.

Being a low-income student, I depend on Federal Student Aid and the Catherine McAuley scholarship to
pay for my tuition. After my basic training, I plan to finish my last year at Mount Mercy this upcoming
fall. I was hoping to reenroll and register for school before leaving, but with the $500 charge, I am
unable to do so. After spending for my other expenses, I cannot produce the remaining $500. This
charge was brought to my attention quite recently. For that, I sincerely apologize that I am writing this
so late and only giving a brief period to review the petition.

As a result of this situation, I would greatly appreciate your approval of my petition.
