The basic formulae used in the cooling water calculations are as follows:

1) Makeup Water Required = Evaporation Loss + Blowdown loss + Drift Loss

2) Evaporation Loss = Circulation Rate x Delta T x 1.8

6) Product Feed Rate (kg/hr) = (Blowdown + Drift Loss) in M3/hr x ppm dose

7) Product Slug Dose (Kg/dose) = Holdup in M3 x ppm dose

8) Holding Time Index = 0.6931 x Holdup in M3

(Blowdown + Droft Loss) M3/hr
The Holding time index indicates the time required to reduce the initial concentration
to its half. This is used in calculating the dose level for biocides etc.
