1. Harvesting Factors
The goal of a good harvesting is to maximize crop yield, to minimize any crop losses and
quality deterioration and to be able to keep the harvested produce in good condition until it is
consumed or sold.
• Harvesting containers, picking baskets, bags, sacks, carts, and buckets which are
made of different materials such as plastic, wooden, natural, or synthetic fibres can be
used as harvesting containers.
• Harvesting tools, Knives must be kept sharp and clean in order to prevent spread of
virus diseases from plant to plant

The method of transportation for fresh fruit and vegetables is determined by distance,
perishability, and the value of the product (Harris, 1988).
• Adequate temperature control systems and air circulation systems are the most
important means to ensure quality preservation of perishables (Vigneault et al., 2009).
