pee eee REDE (a) General Requirements : ‘The requirements of the General Condition, Special Conditions, and ASHARE standards apply to all work her in. (b) Scope: 1- Provide all testing, balancing and adjusting of mechanical systems as indicated on the Drawings and as specified herein. Test shall include but not be limited to the items specified in this section, 2- Testing, balancing and adjusting and shall in no way relieve the contractor of the guarantee requirements. ral 1- During the progress of the work and upon completion, tests shall be made as specified herein and as required by authorities having jurisdiction, including city inspectors owner, Architect, or Engineer. Test shall be conduct by the Mechanical contractor as part of the work of this Division and shall include all qualified personnel, equipment, apparatus, and service and required to perform the tests. 2- The contractor shall submit proposed test procedures, recording forms and test equipment for review prior to the execution of testing, 3+ Leaks, damage, or defects discovered or resulting from tests shall be repaired, or replaced to alike new condition, Leaky pipe joints, ductwork, ete., shall removed and replace with acceptable materials. 4- All equipment and instruments required for tests as well as additional thermometer wells, gauge and instrument connection shall be installed at no additional cost to the owner. 5- All instruments used for testing and balancing must have been calibrated within a period of six months prior to balancing, 6- Submit three copies of each complete testing and balancing report to the engineer for review (a) ‘Testing, Balancing, and Adjusting of Mechanical System = MA Consult 1 HVAG Specifications pepe eee EEE 1- Vibration and alignment field measurements shall be taken for each and every circulating water pump, water chilling unit and fan driven by a motor over 10 HP. Readings shall include shaft alignment, equipment vibration, bearing housing vibration, foundation vibration, building structure vibration, and other tests as directed by the engineer. Readings will be made using portable IRD (or approved equal) equipment capable of filtering out various unwanted frequencies standard reporting froms. Maximum vibration at any point listed above or specified shall not exceed 2 mils unless otherwise specified. Equipment manufactures shall certify in writing that the field readings which do not exceed the maximum specified are acceptable to them. Readings shall be taken with vibration isolation blocked solid to foundation, Section entitled “Air Handling Units” for additional requirements, 2+ The water chilling refrigeration systems shall be tested for refrigerant and air leaks at least two times approximately six months after start-up and at the end the guarantee period. The contractor shall certify the condition of the refrigeration system in writing after test. Any leaks detected shall be properly sealed and the above test period repeated. Soap suds and Hlids torch or electronic refrigerant detector shall be used for leak detection. Replace refrigerant and oil lost during guarantee period at no refrigerant and see Division 1 guarantee period. 3- Sound level readings shall be taken at six locations in the building as selected by the engineer. The readings shall be taken on an Octave Band Analyzer in a manner acceptable to the engineer. The contractor shall submit test equipment data and reporting froms to the engineer for review. In order to reduce the ambient noise level, the reading shall be taken at night. All tests shall be performed in the presence of the engineer, ifhe so desires. 4- Air and water flow measurements shall be made in conjunction with air and water balancing procedures as specified in this section, 5- Leak tests be conducted in accordance with ANSI B31.10 “Power Piping Code” and as specified. Before piping of v: stem has been covered or furred-in, all piping systems shall be tested tight for 24 hours under hydrostatic pressure 1-1/2 times the system working. MA Consult 2 HVAG Specifications 8 eee SBE A final test shall be made after vertical and horizontal pipes and roughing-in have been run and before sewer or fixture connection is made. In this case, as before all pipes in groups of four or five floors shall be filled with water to the top of vertical lines and allowed to remain so filled for twenty four hours. Retesting after leaks are repaired shall be at no additional cost. 6- Air Balancing and Adjusting: a) Supply air systems installed in finished areas of the building shall be balanced and adjusted as follows: After system have been installed complete with all grilles, dampers, duets, coils, and other items hereinafter specified, the contractor shall make adjustments , as required, to deliver the volume of air at each outlet as indicated on P.III-1, item (b) of design flow as shown the drawings. After the finished area is occupied the throughout the conditioned areas. b) After all miscellaneous ventilation systems have been installed complete with all duct, grilles louvers, dampers, fan and other items as hereinafter specified the contractor shall make adjustments, as required to celiver the volumes of air. ©) The contractor shall submit detailed balancing procedures and recording forms for the engineer’s review prior to commencing any air balancing work. <4) Submit six copies of complete reports to the Architect for review and comment. 7- Water Balancing and Adjusting : 4) After piping system have been installed complete with all pumps, piping, valves, coil, and other items as herein specified, the contractor shall make adjustments as required to deliver the water volumes at each coil and piece pf equipment to within 5 % of design flow as shown on the Drawings, or as required to properly balance the cooling load through each coil balanced. Adjustment in water volumes shall made in a manner satisfactory to the engineer. ‘The contractor shall submit detailed balancing procedure and recording forms for engineer’s review prior to commencing any water balancing work. b) Submit six copies of complete comprehensive bound reports to the performance of the systems to the Architect for review and comments. Give design and actual water flow. Give complete nameplate data each piece of equipment reported. (1) After water and air flow are balanced, and with the temperature controls set to design cooling, measure and record all data necessary to compile a complete seport to Demonstrate the acceptability of the various mechanical systems. Include at least the following data in the report. a) Outside dry bulb and wet bulb temperatures, b) Inside dry bulb and wet bulb temperatures in six selected areas of the conditioned space, room or area selected by the engineer. ©) Dry bulb temperatures of air entering and leaving all coils. 4) Temperature of water entering and leaving each water coil. ©) Temperature at all thermometer well locations £) Temperature of water entering and leaving each water chilling unit condenser and evaporator. Q controls set for design heating, repeat procedure specified in the immediately preceding subparagraph except for heat exchanger conditions, (3) The balanced position of the controlling valve shall be permanently marked on the pipe or insulation. (4) Forward si: copies of these readings to the Architect for review and comment. ‘Temperature Control Adjusting : Automatic temperature controls shall be calibrated and all thermostats, dampers, ete., adjusted so that control system is in proper operating condition, subject to review by the engineer.
