How to a Reset Moodle Course for a Fresh Semester to Remove Participants from the Previous Year
while Retaining the Teaching Materials already uploaded on the Site

1. Go into the relevant course Moodle site.

2. Scroll down to the ‘Course Administration’ menu.

4. Scroll down to ‘Roles’ and click on it.

5. Select ‘Student’ under ‘Unenrol users’.

6. Click on ‘Gradebook’.

7. Check ‘Delete all items and categories’.

Resetting the course in this fashion removes all the participants who are on the course under the
‘Student’ category. Please do NOT, absolutely NOT, take the next step if you have the slightest doubt
that there may be unfinished grading for the course (exam papers and assignments submitted on the
Moodle, discussion fora, quizzes, etc.) OR you may not have a copy of the grades you have posted on
the Gradebook. Resetting the course is final and irreversible, and there’s nothing, absolutely nothing,
you can do about any data that gets deleted. So, please think and check, think and check, and think and
check until you are absolutely sure.

8. Hit ‘Reset course’.

I REPEAT: Resetting the course in this fashion removes all the participants who are on the course
under the ‘Student’ category. Please do NOT, absolutely NOT, take the next step (Step 9) if you
have the slightest doubt that there may be unfinished grading for the course (exam papers and
assignments submitted on the Moodle, discussion fora, quizzes, etc.) OR you may not have a copy
of the grades you have posted on the Gradebook. Resetting the course is final and irreversible, and
there’s nothing, absolutely nothing, you can do about any data that gets deleted. So, please think
and check, think and check, and think and check until you are absolutely sure.

9. Hit ‘Continue’.

Now you have a course site which contains all the material that you had uploaded in the previous year
but does not have any of the students from that year. You may reset the enrollment key and share it
with the new students so that they can register for the course.

How to Remove Students from the Previous Year AFTER the New Students have already Enrolled
Themselves

1. Go to ‘Participants’ under the relevant course. Click on the wheel sign next to ‘All participants’.

2. Hit the ‘X’ against the name of the student to be removed.

Taking next step removes the ‘participant’ from the course moodle ALONG with all the submissions
made by that person. Please do NOT, absolutely NOT, take that step if you have the slightest doubt
that there may be unfinished work for that person.
