The Locrian Mode

This mode can be illustrated

by playing the white keys betwcen
and B. The Locrian Mode was never used in
early music be
cause it does not have a
perfect 5th between the first and fifth
tone. However, Bartok and other
composers of the 20th Cen-
tury felt free to experiment with this "strangest of the modes."
