1. Discuss both internal and external evidences supporting mark authorship.

Mark does not identify himself as the author in his book, perhaps because his desire was for the gospel
of Jesus Christ to go out into the world, not his own name.

External Evidence: Papias, an early church father, named Mark as the author of the second Gospel.
Papias recorded that Mark was intimately connected with Peter, perhaps even a disciple of Peter.

Internal Evidence: 1 Peter 5:13 shows a close relationship between Peter and Mark, whom he called his
―dear son. ‖ Colossians 4:10 says Mark is a cousin to Barnabas. In Acts 12:25 he is a person who
traveled with Paul and Barnabas.
