Objective
The objective of these procedures is to prevent service calls (if possible) by:
• cleaning the SCANNER
• checking for correct operation of subsystems
• doing any necessary replacements of parts
Necessary Materials
Caution
Follow the safety recommendations for all cleaning supplies. See the Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for individual
products; go to sds.kodakalaris.com/default.aspx. (See ServiceMax Knowledge Article 21929 for instructions.)

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE
Caution
Prevent damage to the customer’s images or index.
[1] Talk with the customer to obtain information about the operation of the SCANNER, including any issues or
errors reported.
[2] If the customer uses Patch Targets, check that the Targets meet specifications. For information, refer to the
following document.

[3] Observe scanning jobs and operators as they process jobs. Make notes about any recommendations you have
to feed back to the Kodak Alaris Professional Services Team.
[5] Review the front and back images of the TL2112 Target with the customer.
• Identify any issues that you will address as you do the PM.
• Let the customer know of any potential side effects that can occur to their OCR scanning application, if
used, as a result of restoring the Scanner to factory settings.

[6] Do the tests listed in the table below. See the Diagnostics, DG9718-1. During each test:
(a) Listen for noise in the areas of the FEEDER and TRANSPORT.
(b) Feed documents into the SCANNER and check that:
• the ELEVATOR operates without binds
• the FEEDER operates correctly
• documents move correctly through the SCANNER
• documents are sorted (if a SORTER is used), stacked, and counted correctly
Note
Damage that occurs to the corners and edges of the documents might indicate problems in the TRANSPORT.
[7] Check the Service or Activity Log for “ES_CRITICAL” errors, and resolve them before continuing.
[8] Check that the OPERATOR CONTROL PANEL (OCP) operates correctly with optimum quality of the displayed
characters.
[9] If you observed any parts that malfunction or have damage as you checked the scanner operation, do the
necessary replacements.

Dangerous Voltage
[1] De-energize the SCANNER.
[2] Disconnect the SCANNER from the power source.
[3] Clean the SCANNER. See the USER’S GUIDE for the Kodak i5000 SCANNER, Publication No. A-61670.

[10] Loosen the 2 THUMBSCREWS, then remove the
IMAGING GUIDE in the POD.
[11] Using Staticide WIPES, clean both sides of the
IMAGING GUIDE.
[12] Install the IMAGING GUIDE. Secure the 2
THUMBSCREWS.

[13] Loosen the 2 THUMBSCREWS, then remove the
IMAGING GUIDE in the BASE.
[14] Use Staticide WIPES to clean both sides of the

Checking the PRINTER
[1] From the “Idle” menu, select Diagnostics > Print
Test.
[2] Place a blank sheet of paper into the INPUT
TRAY.
[3] Touch [Start].

[6] Check the images of the TL2112 Target. Compare them with the images from the Scanner Operation test that
you did before you completed the PM (from step 4 of Checking the Operation on Page 4).
[8] Review the front and back images of the TL2112 Target with the customer. Review the image quality and any
issues that you addressed.
[9] Talk with the customer about any firmware or driver updates that are available.
