Kelapa Sawit (Elaeis gueneensis)
Kelapa sawit didatangkan oleh pemerintah
Hindia Belanda pada tahun 1848. yang
membawa 4 batang bibit kelapa sawit yang
ditanam di Kebun Raya Bogor, kemudian
ditanam di tepi-tepi jalan sebagai tanaman
hias di Deli, Sumatera Utara pada tahun
1870-an.

Jenis Ciri-Ciri
Dura ▪ Tempurung tebal (2-8mm)
▪ Tidak terdapat lingkaran serabut pada bagian luar tempurung
▪ Daging buah relative tipis, yaitu 35-50% terhadap buah
▪ Kernel (daging biji) besar dengan kandungan minyak rendah
▪ Dalam persilangan, dipakai sebagai pohon induk betin
Pisifera ▪ Ketebalan tempurung sangat tipis bahkan hampir tidak ada
▪ Daging buah tebal, lebih tebal dari daging buah Dura
▪ Daging biji sangat tipis
▪ Inti hanya dilapisi lapisan serabut
▪ Minyak inti sawit yang dihasilkan sangat rendah
▪ Tidak dapat menyilangkan dengan jenis lain dan dipakai sebagai pohon
induk jantan
Tenera ▪ Hasil dari persilangan antara Dura dan Psifera
▪ Tempurung tipis (0,5-4mma)
▪ Terdapat lingkaran serabut disekeliling tempurung
▪ Daging buah sangat tebal, lebih tebal dari Dura dan Tenera, Yaitu 60-96%
dari buah
▪ Tandan buah lebih banyak, tetapi ukurannya relative lebih kecil 5
▪ Berat tandan adalah 22-24%
