The Difficulty of the Office Administration Working Students in

Flexible Learning Mode

Statement of the Problem

The main reason of this research was the difficulty of office administration working

students in flexible learning mode.

Specifically, it sought to answer the specific problems:

1. What is the profile of students in terms of:

1.1 Sex

1.2 Age

2. What are the factors that affect the learning process of a working student in

flexible learning mode?

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of flexible learning mode?

4. What is the relationship of the factors that affect the working students learning

process when grouped according to profile?

Theoretical Framework

E-Learning Theory

Virtual learning, also known as online learning or remote learning, has been changing the

landscape of the school system since COVID-19 pandemic, it is quickly becoming an integral

and a widespread weapon in the broader aspect of higher education. It offers alternative means

of studying in today’s era with the use of technologies like personal computer, tablet and

cellphone. They also include the way how it will be delivered, the real-time virtual interactions

(synchronous) or through offline-modular based learning (asynchronous) (Moore et al., 2011).

The goal is to examine the effect of self-directed e-learning on the achievement of

undergraduate students in science and creativity (Zare, et.al., 2016). COVID-19 lead the whole

world in lockdown and quarantine to prevent the bloat of the positive cases.

E-learning systems are used by people. E-learning technologies allow distinct groups of

users to engage directly or indirectly. Content integration, communication, and collaboration

tools are all supported by technology. All of the activities that relate to pedagogical models and

instructional methodologies are integrated into e-learning services. The direct or indirect action

with e-learning systems is a complicated interaction combination.

Figure 1: E-Learning Theoretical Framework

Figure 1 shows that the three primary components of an information system: people,

technology, and services offered by technology were used to build the e-learning systems

theory framework. They review and identify stakeholders’ groups and their interactions with

e-learning systems using these fundamental pillars as a guide. They next give a

classification of technological issues for these types of systems, focusing more on the type

of content and communication methods than on presenting a list of available platforms.

The complex interaction combination is the direct or indirect action with e-learning systems

(Aparicio, Bacao, And Oliveira, 2015). This theory simply implies the contents of virtual

classroom and how it works. Being in a flexible learning process of education here in

Philippines due to COVID-19, it is really applicable for our current research topic.

The researchers based the research more on E-Learning theoretical framework as it

is more closed in their research objective. The learning process of individuals that differ

base on the variable that this study will yet to identify, in the attention of services,

technologies, and struggles will conclude the difficulty level. The intent of this study is to

analyze the significance of the difficulty level of the learning process of a working student

in times of pandemic which is the COVID-19 today so the researcher can understand and

vouch the hardships they are experiencing as working student while learning and surviving

the pandemic, at the same time. Also, to suggest ways to at least decrease it and be a

reference for institutional purposes.

Conceptual Framework

A working student is a learner that attends educational institution while having a part-

time job at the same time. According to Public Agenda (2016) students has different

reasons for working such as paying their education expenses, obtaining a particular
credential and gaining valuable knowledge that could be valuable in both education and

career.

Having a job is hard enough and a lot of work to do so what more being an enrolled

student and juggling school works. As said by Marsh & Kleitman (2016), scholar suggest

that the way we consider having job while in high school has relation to the time spent on

school works. Working may take time away from school requirements that could lead to the

downfall of grades and poor academic performance. But a lot of students still be

participating in school activities and succeed even while working so in assuming, every

working student has different tolerance or withstand pressure and learning process as

dependent variable.

This research indicated that there are factors that affect the coping mechanism at

times of difficulty as a working student in Rizal Technological University.

This study used the system analysis approach Input - Process – Output (IPO) model

to serve as a pattern to conduct this research.

Figure 2: Research Paradigm

Figure 2 illustrates the outline of the whole research where the inputs are the profile

of the respondents, factors that affect the learning process and advantages and

disadvantages of flexible learning. The researchers use the process of conducting a survey

with the help of a questionnaire through Google form to come up with the output which is

the coping mechanism at times of difficulty as a working student. Then they analyze and

interpret the data. Cahapay (2020) identifies the following struggles in flexible learning as

experience by university students in the Philippines with unstable internet connectivity,

vague learning contents, electric power interruption, overloaded lesson activities and

mental health struggles. In addition, financial constraints, lack of technological devises,

distraction from surroundings (Alvarez, 2020).
