    To whom it may concern:

    My name is Alex Lin and I am the Chair and Assistant Professor of the Liberal Studies Department at
    Vanguard University. As Elizabeth’s course instructor and academic advisor, she is an excellent candidate
    to your program and demonstrates the necessary skills of being an effective teacher.

    An important note is that Elizabeth is waived from the CSET requirements for the Multiple Subject exam,
    PENDING that she passes all her classes and graduates with her Liberal Studies degree this Fall 2020
    semester (for more information about the CSET waiver see below). Elizabeth has met all course
    requirements under the Elementary Subject Matter (ESM) waiver program except for the following
    courses that she is taking this current Fall Semester.
    • EDUC 213-01: Dance for Elementary Teachers (3 units)
    • ENGL-453-01: Language, Culture, and Linguistics (3 units)
    • EDUC 326: Child and Adolescent Development (3 units)
    • EDUC-499C-01: Senior Capstone in Lib Studies (3 units)
    • KINE-435-01: Physical Education for Elementary Teachers (3 units)
    • PSCI-215C-ONL1: Fundamentals of Earth Science (3 units)
    If she passes all these courses, then she has met all the course requirements needed to waive the CSET

    Additional Notes about CSET Waiver


    Our Liberal Studies program at Vanguard University has been approved by the California Commission on
    Teaching Credential (CTC) to offer the Elementary Subject Matter Waiver (ESM) in May 2018 (see link
    indicating our approved program and to see other State approved institutions). Our program was approved by
    the CTC because our coursework demonstrates alignment with the outcomes and assessments of the K-8 state-
    adopted content standards. Because student will have successfully completed all her coursework as a Liberal
    Studies major, she has demonstrated the subject matter competence requirements necessary to being an
    Elementary School teacher.
